The Medallion Coffee Table

I knew the moment I saw this sad little coffee table on Craig's List.....for a steal I might add, that it had to be my next project. It was covered in that thick mahogany stain, you know the one. It had damage to the top, but was solid and be still my heart.....was on brass casters!

The popular opinion was paint over that awful top, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I just knew in my heart that there was something beautiful under all that varnish. So I went to sanding.....and sanding.....and sanding! As soon as that ugly varnish was gone and the natural wood inlay started to emerge, well I got happy!

I didn't want to make the same mistake and cover it all up again, so I decided to just to leave it natural and seal it with hemp oil.

The rest of the table was updated with Marzipan Milk Paint, allowed to naturally chip and peel a bit, then lightly distressed and sealed with wax.

I love how the details were brought out by the distressing. And the light almond color doesn't compete with the beautiful top.

I kept the original hardware, it still worked well with the new table. I always like to reuse the original hardware when ever possible. It's usually good quality and has more character than the new stuff!

This one was a fun transformation. It's now in the store at Resurrect Antiques and priced only $149.00! Do you have the perfect spot in your home for this beauty?
